Bristol Drainage Pros › Clifton
Clifton's tall Georgian terraces, Victorian streets in Cliftonwood and many converted flats all bring their own drainage problems. One call puts you through to an independent local engineer.
Call 0117 441 1646Much of Clifton was built in the late 18th and 19th centuries, including grand terraces such as Royal York Crescent and Berkeley Square, many of them three or more storeys high. Cliftonwood, down towards the harbour, is mostly large Victorian terraces.
Older buildings like these often still have original clay or cast-iron pipework underground. Over time joints can open, pipes can crack and roots can find their way in, which leads to repeat blockages rather than one-off ones.
In converted houses, several flats often share one soil stack and one drain. A blockage on a lower floor may be caused by waste from flats above, and the shared parts may be the freeholder's or managing agent's responsibility rather than yours.
Tell us the problem and your postcode when you call.
Overflowing manholes, blocked toilets, sinks, showers and outside gullies.
High-pressure cleaning to clear grease, silt, scale and debris.
A camera inspection to find the cause of repeat blockages, or before buying a home.
Fixes for cracked, displaced or root-damaged pipes, often without digging.
If the blockage is in a drain or sewer shared with neighbours, or in a pipe that runs outside your property boundary, it is usually not your responsibility. Since 1 October 2011, shared drains and lateral drains outside the property boundary have been the responsibility of the local sewerage company, which in Bristol and South Gloucestershire is Wessex Water. Drains that serve only your property and sit within your boundary are yours. If you are not sure which applies, check with Wessex Water before you pay for work.
Clifton is in the Bristol City Council area.
In converted buildings several flats often share the same drain, so a blockage caused further along the pipe can show up in the lowest flat first. A local engineer can find where the blockage is, and you may need to involve your managing agent if it is in a shared section.
Access and parking vary street by street. Mention any access issues, such as no parking or a basement-only entrance, when you call so the engineer can plan for it.
No. Bristol Drainage Pros is a call-connection service. We do not carry out drainage work ourselves. Work is carried out by independent engineers, who are responsible for their own work, insurance and prices.
We also connect callers in areas around Clifton. Coverage depends on which engineers are available, so check when you call.
